How Long Does It Take To Get a Divorce in New York?

The length of each divorce case in New York will vary since everyone’s circumstances are different. An uncontested divorce could take as little as several weeks if the couple can come to an agreement on matters such as support and custody. However, if the couple cannot agree, then the divorce becomes contested and could take several months to a year or more.

New York does not have a waiting period after filing for divorce, so as soon as the issues are settled in or out of court, the divorce can be finalized.

How Much Does It Cost to Get a Divorce in New York?

Just like the length of each divorce will vary, the cost of each divorce will range in New York. You can expect to pay at least $335 in total court and filing fees, but there will be additional costs for other fees and legal expenses. The total amount of these costs will depend on how complicated the divorce is and how long it takes to resolve.
